The 1st annual Moonshine Capital Homebrew competition judging takes place on Friday August 22, 2025. Winners will be announced during the Moonshine Capital Brewfest August 23, 2025.
This Competition is a non-sanctioned event and open to any amateur homebrewer 21 yrs of age or older.
Each entry must have an entry label attached to the container by rubber band which contains the following information:

You must provide 4 12oz bottles or 4 12 or 16 oz cans per entry. Two cans will be judged and the other two will be passed out as samples during the Moonshine Capital Brewfest. (you are welcome to send more to be sampled during the Festival)
All Entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers.( no use of commercial facilities, operations, supplies , etc.)
Judges will evaluate and score each entry. A consensus score will be used to rank each entry in its category. The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Best of Show panel on a second judging of the top winners.
The current plan is for 4-5 categories-(light ale/lager, dark ale/lager, sours, IPA, Experimental). Organizers reserve the right to combine or add styles for judging and to restructure awards as needed depending on the quantity of entries. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to their BJCP guidelines.
Registration Fee: Each participant will be allowed up to 3 entries with a purchased ticket to the Moonshine Capital Brewfest. Proof of purchase will be required. $5 per entry donation without ticket purchase.

Arrangements can be made for a pick up in Roanoke, Lynchburg and the NRV if there is enough interest.
